Treadmill

Treadmill tips for beginners

I have been using treadmills for almost 3 years now. I don't consider myself an expert, but I've had the opportunity to test so many models that I can easily list at least 10 treadmill facts which have an influence on any beginner runner.

Fact 1: An entry level treadmill works for walkers only. Instead of investing $500 in cheap equipment, it's much healthier to go for a walk outside.

Fact 2: Runners need professional treadmills. You can start with a model around $1,000 but proper training can be sustained only by treadmills above $2,000.

Fact 3: Those who want to know what a true treadmill experience feels like, try a model around $8,000. Usually you can use these treadmills in Health Clubs with reputation. These models have everything any runner needs (beginner or professional athlete).

Fact 4: Running on treadmill is much easier than running outside.

Fact 5: Because of fact 4, treadmills are highly recommended to beginners. With a proper beginner's treadmill workout, anyone can fell in love with running from the first attempt.

Fact 6: Treadmills can be boring. This is why you need to have a plan before you start working out and stick to it. Motivation is very important to have results (as always).

Fact 7: Results appear faster when working out on a treadmill. This is because treadmills control your workout. You only need to focus on breathing.

Fact 8: Smart Treadmill workouts replace a running partner and a professional trainer. We will just use as example the iFit Workouts compatible with Icon Treadmills (such as NordicTrack or ProForm) which are built for specific goals and have voice commands enabled. Workouts control the treadmill; you just follow instructions and keep running.

Fact 9: Treadmills are highly recommended for those interested in losing weight because they include cardio options. You lose more weight when you workout at 85% of your targeted heart rate. Smart treadmills can control workout intensity according to your age target heart rate.

Fact 10: If you live in a big city, you want to start running but don't have where, use a treadmill. Go to a gym or even better, buy one for your home and run when you want and can. It's the best plan B for a runner.

In the end of this short article, I just want to mention that in the end, treadmills are only tools that can help. The key to become or be a runner is motivation and ambition.
